For Sale: Stokedown (“Spike”) — Quality OTTB Gel

Spike is a 7‑year‑old, 16.1hh chestnut OTTB gelding with a wonderful temperament and a genuinely lovable personality. I’ve owned him since he retired from racing as a 5‑year‑old, and he has been an incredibly versatile and enjoyable horse in every way.

About Spike

• Lovely temperament — kind, willing, and easy to have around

• Soft mouth and straightforward ride

• Ridden and competed by competent teenagers, and has also safely carried complete beginners

• Confident out and about: beach rides, forest trails, swimming, and competitions

Competition Experience

Spike has an impressive and honest competition record for a young OTTB:

• Interschool National Championships 2024 (Tamworth NSW) — EVA80

  • Handled the atmosphere and busy environment with maturity well beyond his years

• Eventing: EVA80

• Showjumping: confidently competing 1.00m and training 1.05m. Happy and easy in busy Ag show environments.

• Dressage: competing Novice, training Elementary

Personality & Paddock Behaviour

• Sits at the top of the pecking order

• Happiest paddocked with one or more horses

• Loves adventures and thrives with variety in his work

• Seen regularly by a physio

• Shod, with strong, healthy feet — not prone to lameness even if he loses a shoe
